Abstract
Before planting, soaking globe artichoke seed pieces in water or plant growth substances is an easy technique that can reduce the usual germination rate by a few days. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse covered with white bulls. The search was conducted at the Vegetables Research Department's experimental farm, Horticulture Research Institute, Dokki, Giza Governorate, Egypt, in the 2023 and 2024 growing seasons. The experiment evaluated the effects of Aloe vera and liquorice extracts as soaking treatments on the germination and speed of globe artichoke seed pieces. According to the findings, the soaking treatment with 40 cm3/l of liquorice extract resulted in the lowest germination days of globe artichoke seedlings, an increase in rooting length, fresh weight and dry weight of seedlings, leaf chlorophyll content, and leaf area. On the other hand, the second liquorice extract concentration (60 cm3/l) raised cynarin and IAA. In addition to Aloe vera extract at 60 cm3/l, artichoke seedlings recoded the least germination time (days) and highest plant length, leaf number, fresh and dry weight of seedling, leaf chlorophyll content, and leaf area. While, Aloe vera extract at a concentration of 80 cm3/l produced the highest nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium values.
